Henasku Fortress

Henasku Fortress was located on Kargil-Leh National Highway in Kargil District of Union Territory of Ladakh. I visited the Fortress during June 2018. In olden days, Henasku village was known as Zbayul.



Government Tourist Bungalow was available at Haniskote.


It was a short detour off the main road.



After getting sown from vehicle, I walked for some time. The Fortress was visible from a distance.



The Castle looked impressive under the background of rocky mountains.



The village was visible at a lower level.



Green fields were at the other side.



The Fortress was closed and locked.



I did not arrange for a key from its owner; I had outside view.




A Buddhist prayer flag was visible.



A faded Buddha painting was found.



Time had taken a toll on the structure.



A section of the Fortress was in ruins.





Before proceeding towards onward journey, I had a final view of the Fortress.

Zorawar Fort

Text and Photographs by Mr. Sachin Vaidya Zorawar Fort was a mud fort built by General Zorawar Singh (1786 - 1841) who served the State of Jammu and Kashmir. It was built in 1836. Signboards depicted direction to the Fort and café. The Fort was renovated to mark the golden jubilee of India's independence. A board depicted details of restoration work. A canon greeted the visitors. There was a closed room called 'topkhana' meaning 'canon storeroom'. Various boards clearly depicted that the Fort was managed by army. Museum was added to the Fort on 11th September 2006. A cart was displayed in a shed. A decorative door was closed. The Museum was dedicated to Dogra and Ladakhi warriors. Guest rooms were added on 23rd August 2017. Himalayan vista was visible from the Fort. Zorawar Singh's bust was visible from back side. Two canons guarded the bust. Zangla Palace

  Text and Photographs by Mr. Sachin Vaidya Zangla Palace was a place from where half of Zanskar (region) was once ruled. Zanskar lies in Kargil District of Union Territory of Ladakh. It has a sizable Buddhist population. Zangla was an independent kingdom till its accession to the State of Jammu and Kashmir in 1834. I visited the Palace during June 2019. Following board describes brief history of the Palace: The Palace is in state of disrepair. The Palace is believed to built by Ldey Tsug Gon who was the king of Zanskar during the 10th century. Following video shows the Palace and surrounding: The Palace surroundings were typical Ladakhi landscape. Buddhist Stupas were visible in the vicinity. The descendants of the former royal family stayed at the foothill of the Palace; however, I did not click photograph of their home which looked good from outside.
